2013 3. 100000 miles

I am currently getting the same problem and my local mechanic tracked it down to a faulty ERC valve and I am trying to get Ford to replace free of charge given low Ks ie 63K

OMalley

Same problem exactly for my 2.2 ranger 2012. What was the outcome with yours???

Jake

I have exactly the same issue! My mechanic can't work it out. I'd love to chat or Please share your fix so I can point them in the right direction.

@Nhank

Hi mate have u had any luck with this problem, having the same issue and no mechanic I’ve taken the ranger to con work it out

Kylie

We are having same problem in 2014 Ford Ranger, has anyone had any luck at all?

Meison

I have same issues with my Ford ranger 2013

MickT

My 2013 PX1 is having a similar issue. Mainly when I turn right with momentum the stability control light comes up on the dash. I can hear a suction noise from the engine bay which I can only describe sounds like a ship horn! I loose all acceleration under foot and at its worst I have to stop the car and switch it off to reset. This issue does not seem to happen in a straight line driving situation. My mechanic can’t find what it is as it won’t throw any codes. The only thing that comes up is ’turbo low power’. I have been told that it could be the electronic actuator on the turbo but there is no definitive evidence that this is the actual issue. It could be throwing this code because of the loss in power. I have noticed that when this issue occurs the top hose ( throttle body to intercooler) depresses. Meaning that it is no longer pressurised instead in a vacuum.

Jake

MickT yeah that sounds a bit different to what the OP described and what others with 'same issue's are claiming...Mines going to Ford Kilmore on 29th/April so we'll see what they say.If anyone who has had this issue rectified, or if anyone see this in future send me an email to Jake at MRLS dot com for au

MickT

Hey Jake,Yeah my mechanic was having trouble making sense of it. I’ve since taken it to a auto elec and they are certain that it is the turbo actuator. I’ve decided to up the turbo with the Garrett upgrade and throw in a better flowing intercooler followed by a remap. If this fixes the issue I’ll let everyone know.

Dale

@MickTHow’d you go mate? This generation of ranger have small wiring issues and while I’m not getting the same problem with traction, I do have a problem with the engine hunting idol after turbo engagement until the engine is warm. Wonder if this is also an actuator issue...

@Nhank

Anyone have an out come with the TC light staying on issue? Having the same problem

Jake

Mine has stopped doing it for now. But it's done this before... Does it every day (or almost every day) for a while, and then it'll stop for a few months.

@Nhank

@JakeThanks for getting back to me. Appreciate it cheers mate

MickT

@@NhankHey fellas,Sorry, really late reply here...So it sounds like we are all having symptoms that could relate to some of the same issues. So I think with the traction control issue the first thing we checked was the wheel sensors. If they check out ok keep in mind that if you have a big wheel set up and 2' and higher lift kit, it can set the sensors off over time. It seems to be only happening to the right side. With my ute I had other issues going on at the same time so it through us right off in terms of diagnosis.

Zach

Anyone resolve this problem? I'm having the exact same issue 2013 Ford Ranger Hi-Rider 2.2L

Jake

After a little while of the fault not happening, the fault has returned, very randomly coming on but generally in the morning not long after first start. My ute is at Ford right now actually for a service. They say some fault codes are showing up regarding the glow plugs open circuit and EGR faulty... ???? They had it overnight but said they couldn't see the fault happen (of course it doesn't happen the morning they had it). They said the glow plugs and EGR need replacing anyway ($1700 ish) and this might indirectly rectify the Traction control issue. (The service manager said they've seen glow plugs get old, have this fault code, it be ignored, and the tip snap off into the cylinder... not good so they need replacing regardless of the traction control issue)We'll see what happens when I get the ute back and if the traction control fault goes away.

Zach

Hey mate, any updates on your ute?

Jake

@ZachHey mate, yeah got it back Monday arvo (a few days ago), no faults yet... Buy it'll go periods of time without the light coming on and going into limp mode... so I'm only mildly confident the fault is fixed but hopeful. Ask me in a few weeks haha. (So they changed all glow plugs and replaced the ECG valve. )

Zach

@JakeAwesome mate! Yes please, if you could possibly post up in a week or 2 with the outcome will be great for all of us to finally pin point or have an idea on whats causing this fault. Thanks for your quick response legend !

As I posted before its a blocked ERC valve. My mechanic took it out and cleaned it but it will happen again... just carbons up over time especially with short city driving. They can be bypassed but that is not legal because of the anti pollution regs. Ford has been not help at all

Zach

Awesome mate ! Yes I have the same problem. I just got off the phone with Ford in Mansfield QLD, blocked ERC/EGR? Valve

Gilbo

Hey guys same problem with mine. Knocking sound on the engine, strong gas smell, limp mode, check engine warning and the traction control warning pops up until i found out that the EGR valve is stucked in close position, manage to remove it with difficulty and made it work to easily pushed the valve spring in and out. I got rid of the knocking sound and strong gas smell but the traction and limpmode is still. There. Anyone knows how to reset it?

Zach

Yes blocked EGR valve. Check for any splits in your intercooler hose’s or the intercooler it’s self, I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a split hose.

Regs

Hi guysI’ve got what sounds like the same thing in a PX 2.5 petrol model, ESC light comes in within 30m of driving then if I turn steering wheel more than 90 deg the ABS pulses. Any ideas on this one? Cheers!

Shaneo

Hi there did you find out your issue, as I currently have this same issue with my ford ranger, appreciate any help please

Shanialee177

2.2lt 2015 hi-rider ranger. Had a problem with trac control light coming on, wheel clicking at low speed only when my vehicle was cold, random limp mode, no fault history on scan tool every time it was scanned. Finally went into limp mode and engine light stayed on after stopping and starting vehicle. Egr fault, put a blanking plate and plugged in a model about $200 all up and I fitted it myself in about 15 minutes. Well I haven’t had a single problem since and I blocked it off about a week ago. This was an on going issue for about 2 years. Was ready to drive it into a tree because nobody could tell me what the hell was going on. Highly recommend doing an Egr block if you haven’t already

Red ned

Its the wiring harness for wheel sensors need to replace valve body and lead frame because sensors not sending correct signal to auto transmission

2013 px1 highrider - Is this the fix for the traction control/limp mode fault? Mine is doing it intermittently

Jamm

Hi guys been reading this thread I know some of these comments are from 3 years ago but my 2014 ford ranger has gone to shit. First traction control light came on and the car just had no power while eccelarating now next day the car traction control light is still on and now the engine light is on the car has no power It wouldn't even make it up drive way. Does anyone know what could be the problem I'm thinking the motor is about to die

Zach

Hey bro, check your intercooler pipes to see if they are split. That’s what happened to mine same issue. Let me know how you go

Jamm

@ZachHey zach that was the first thing I checked as I've been reading up on a few issues with others but from what I can see my pipes seem to be intact. I'm getting the car diagnosed on Monday so hopefully they can sort an find the issue. Thanks mate

Zach

@JammSometimes you aren’t able to see it due to a hairline split. Have the car running and feel around the pipes to see if you can feel any air. That’s how I found my hairline split and then I used a few zipties to fix the problem. had the zip ties on for a month before the replacement part had arrived. Hope this helps mate, all the best!

Jamm

@ZachThanks mate I appreciate your advise I'll get out their tomorrow an have a look as we got smashed with rain pretty bad lastnight. Cheers mate

Pedro

Have a 2012 PX 2.2 deisel just had new turbo fitted now engine and anti skid lights are on went well for a week after turbo fitted now just a piece of crap.

Jpsz

I have a 2013 PX1 high rider - the traction control light stays on and it’s like the car is stuck in high gear and the revs won’t go over 3000. Turn the car off and on again and it goes away. Anyone know what the issue is.

Zach

Check your intercooler piping, same thing happened to mine on the cold side.

Jpsz

@ZachJust has the intercooler, inlet manifold and glow plugs changed. I think it’s more of a transmission issue.
